Specimens to Solutions: A glimpse into Collections and Research at the Natural History Museum

We are delighted to invite you the first of our 2022 Harwell Connect networking events hosted by the Natural History Museum in the spacious Advance Training Centre, MRC Harwell, on Wednesday 16 February from 3.00pm.

Join the Harwell Connect team to hear from members of the MRC and Natural History Museum teams who will collectively share what they do, examples of their existing campus collaborations and potential for working together in the future.

  • “Training with MRC Harwell” – Liz Bentley, Advance Scientific Training Centre Manager
  • An introduction from Ken Norris, Head of Life Sciences

Plus a selection of research highlights from:

  • “A virtual world of palaeontology” - Dr Imran Rahman, Principal Researcher
  • “Using specimen metadata to study global change and more” – Dr Natalie Cooper, Principal Researcher
  • “A New National UK Biodiversity Biobank” - Jacqueline Mackenzie-Dodds, Collections Manager, Molecular and Frozen Tissues
  • “Genomic solutions for biomedical, biodiversity and Conservation” – Raju Misra, Head of Molecular Biology Laboratories
  • “Looking at life through the lenses of evolutionary trees” – Dr Andrea Waeschenbach, Principal Researcher

During the event, colleagues from NHM will be showcasing these examples of their work and research. There will be opportunities to take short tours of the new MRC training facility alongside plenty of time for networking over tea, coffee and cake.

Please indicate when registering if you would like to join a tour group during the event.

Harwell Connect’s bi-monthly events are open to all campus organisations and sectors, providing a central forum to network and meet colleagues from the 200+ companies and facilities spread across the site. Harwell Connect events are hosted by a different campus organisation each time, providing an opportunity to visit some of the buildings you may never have been inside.

If you cannot come along in February, please invite colleagues along in your place and also feel free to invite any contacts you may have from other campus-based organisations that you work with.

For the safety of all those attending, we are taking steps to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 infection: Proof of a negative PCR or Lateral flow test will be required, check HERE for guidance on providing this. Social distancing and face coverings are advised in the communal areas unless eating or drinking. Face coverings are required for the tours. If you should experience any COVID-19 symptoms, you must not attend the event. If possible, please let the Harwell Connect team know that you’re unable to attend.

We look forward to welcoming you and/or your colleagues to the Harwell Connect event.

The event is brought to you by Harwell Campus and STFC in partnership.
